Celebrating

UN World Oceans Day

at ‘Sea to Summit’

Co-hosted by the Embassy of Canada to Japan

Friday, June 7, 18:30: Oscar Peterson Theatre at the Embassy of Canada to Japan

Celebrate United Nations World Oceans Day on 7 June 2024 with “Sea to Summit,” a film screening and discussion co-hosted by the SEGO Initiative and the Embassy of Canada to Japan. Two short documentaries focusing on oceans and glaciers, originally part of a series called “Save the Beyond” produced by A+E Networks Japan for Citizen Watch and aired on The History Channel.

The films explore climate change and present a new perspective on the aquatic environment and invite viewers to see the world from sea to summit.

Eco-heros, Will Gadd, a Canadian ice climber, and Dr. Alison Criscitello, a glacier researcher and professor at the University of Alberta, are featured in one of the films.

“Sea to Summit” extends SEGO’s public ocean literacy programming that includes our Ocean Awareness webinar sessions and an UN World Oceans Day digital projection in Omotesando/Aoyama and Shibuya in 2023. The event also recognizes the importance that Canada attaches to engagement on environment/climate change by raising awareness about ocean conservation and inspiring action to improve the health of our oceans.

Please join us as we explore the importance of preserving our marine ecosystems and how each of us can contribute to their protection and restoration. Let’s celebrate World Oceans Day together and inspire positive change for the future of our planet.
